The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Dr. Ajit Ratnakar Joshi as its new Executive Director (ED), starting from March 3, 2025.
Before this promotion, Dr. Joshi was working as the Principal Adviser in the Department of Statistics and Information Management.
Dr. Joshi has over 30 years of experience in areas like statistics, information technology, and cyber risk management. He has also worked as a faculty member at the Institute of Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad. In addition, he has been a member of several committees and working groups that focus on compiling macroeconomic statistics and discussing policy matters.
As an Executive Director, Dr. Joshi will be responsible for overseeing the Department of Statistics and Information Management, as well as the Financial Stability Department.
Dr. Joshi has strong academic qualifications. He holds a master’s degree in statistics from Nagpur University and a Ph.D. in monetary economics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He also has a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, and is a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).
