A team from the Ghaziabad unit of the CBI raided the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Bhadrauli, Pinahat (Agra), on Thursday evening. The raid was conducted following complaints regarding irregularities in the ‘PM Surya Ghar Yojana’. CBI seized loan files related to the scheme and interrogated the Assistant Manager for five hours. CBI also questioned manager and seven other staff members.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme to install rooftop solar panels, providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month for eligible households. It offers direct financial subsidies for residential solar installations, reducing electricity bills and grid reliance. The government provides subsidy upto at a maximum of ₹78,000.
Around 12:00 PM, four to five CBI officials from Ghaziabad arrived at the Punjab National Bank in a vehicle but did not enter the premises immediately. The team gathered information from people in the vicinity and kept the bank under surveillance. At approximately 6:00 PM, just as preparations were being made to close the bank, team members arrived in two separate vehicles. The CBI officials proceeded directly inside the branch and began questioning the staff.
It is reported that Brijmohan Tyagi, a resident of Saiyan, had lodged a complaint regarding irregularities in the ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’. The team summoned him as well. Eight individuals, including the manager and assistant manager, were present at the time; no one was allowed to leave, nor was anyone else permitted to enter. The team seized the loan-related files and questioned the employees individually.
According to reports, the CBI team conducted a lengthy interrogation of the bank’s Assistant Manager, Praveen Yadav, and seized loan files and bank records related to the scheme. Senior bank officials also provided the necessary information. The team remained at the bank until around 11 PM. The raid caused a chaotic atmosphere within the bank, and a crowd gathered outside as the operation unfolded. More details will be released soon.
