RBI Gold Reserves Rise to 880.52 Metric Tonnes, Government Informs Parliament
The Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) held 880.52 metric tonnes of gold reserves as on June 26, 2026. The information was shared by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response to a parliamentary question.
Gold Reserves Increased Over the Last Three Years
According to the data provided by the RBI, India’s gold reserves have steadily increased over the last three years. The reserves stood at 794.63 metric tonnes on March 31, 2023, increased to 822.10 metric tonnes on March 31, 2024, and further rose to 879.58 metric tonnes on March 31, 2025. As of March 31, 2026, the reserves reached 880.52 metric tonnes, showing a marginal increase of 0.94 metric tonnes during the last year.

No Study on Gold Held by Religious Places or Households
The Government also clarified that no studies have been conducted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), or the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) to estimate the quantity of gold held by religious places or Indian households.
