The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded Udraj Verma as its Lok Sabha candidate from Sultanpur. Verma reached the District Magistrate’s office on Friday to file his nomination papers. When asked about being a bank defaulter, Udraj Verma stated that it is a common thing for businessmen and having arrears is not a big deal. He mentioned that taking loans is a normal practice for business purposes.

Udraj Verma, accompanied by Dr. Om Prakash Tripathi, the State General Secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party, handed over his nomination papers to the District Magistrate. Supporters outside the gate raised slogans in support of Verma. He will be competing against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and former cabinet minister Maneka Gandhi in the Sultanpur constituency.

There are a lot of cases where bank defaulters contest elections. Recently, Bank Unions requested Election Commission to debar such candidates from contesting elections but no decision has been taken so far.
