A security guard at Canara Bank’s Saket Nagar branch, Ram Pratap, suffered a heart attack while on duty. The people present at the bank thought he was having an epileptic seizure and waited for an ambulance instead of taking immediate action. However, a policeman on duty at the bank, Avinash Rai, realized that it was a heart attack and rushed him to the hospital in his personal car, saving his life.
What Happened?
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon while Ram Pratap was performing his security duties at the bank. Suddenly, he collapsed on the ground and became unconscious. Foam started coming out of his mouth, which made bystanders believe that he was having an epileptic fit.
A female employee of the bank quickly informed Avinash Rai, who was on duty at the bank for security purposes. When Avinash reached inside, he saw Ram Pratap lying motionless on the floor, and people were waiting for an ambulance instead of taking any immediate steps.
Quick Thinking Saves a Life
Avinash Rai, who had learned about heart attack symptoms during his police training, immediately suspected that the security guard was having a cardiac arrest and not a seizure. He knew that delaying treatment in such cases could be fatal.
Instead of waiting for the ambulance, he decided to take action himself. He carefully lifted Ram Pratap and placed him in his personal car, then drove him straight to AIIMS Hospital.
Doctors Confirm Heart Attack
Upon reaching AIIMS, doctors immediately examined Ram Pratap and confirmed that he had suffered two heart attacks in a short span of time. They said that if he had not received timely treatment, his life could have been in danger. Thanks to Avinash Rai’s quick response, doctors were able to start treatment immediately.
By Friday, Ram Pratap’s condition improved, and his family decided to shift him from AIIMS to a private hospital in Arera Colony for further care.
Importance of Quick Action in Medical Emergencies
This incident highlights the importance of recognizing medical emergencies and acting quickly. In cases of heart attacks, every second matters, and immediate medical attention can save lives.
Many people fail to recognize heart attack symptoms and mistake them for epilepsy, indigestion, or general weakness. Experts advise that if someone collapses suddenly, has difficulty breathing, experiences chest pain, or foams at the mouth, it is crucial to seek medical help immediately and, if possible, rush them to a hospital instead of waiting.
Thanks to Avinash Rai’s training and presence of mind, a life was saved. His quick decision-making and willingness to act in a crisis serve as an example of how timely intervention can make a big difference.
