Shocking Bank Fraud in Pune: PNB Manager and Jeweler accused of Stealing Jewellery worth Rs 2.65 Crores
In a shocking incident in Pune, a manager at Punjab National Bank (PNB) and a local jeweler have been accused of stealing valuables worth ₹2.65 crores from a customer’s locker. The stolen items included gold, silver, diamonds, and cash, and the jewelry was allegedly melted down to destroy evidence.
Who is Involved?
The key individuals accused in this case are Nayana Ajwani, a senior manager at PNB, and a jeweler named Satish Punjabi. The theft took place at the Punjab National Bank branch located at Aurora Towers in Camp, Pune, between August 13 and September 6.
How the Incident Came to Light
The complaint was filed by Yash Keshavlal Kapoor, a resident of Empress Court Society in Pune. Yash Kapoor had stored valuable items in his locker at the bank, including gold, silver, diamond jewelry, and ₹9.50 lakhs in cash. He was unaware that his locker had been accessed multiple times without his consent.
On September 6, Kapoor visited the bank and was shocked to learn that his locker had been opened multiple times on August 13 by the bank manager Nayana Ajwani, jeweler Satish Punjabi, and others. They did not inform Kapoor or seek his approval for these illegal entries.
How the Theft Unfolded
The police investigation revealed that the bank manager and her associates violated several banking protocols to gain access to Kapoor’s locker. With the help of an accomplice, Surender Shahani, they made several attempts to unlock the locker. Once they succeeded, the valuables inside, totaling ₹2.65 crores, were handed over to jeweler Satish Punjabi, who then melted down the jewelry to cover up the crime.
The Police Investigation
After discovering the theft, Yash Kapoor immediately lodged a complaint at the Cantonment Police Station. The police have registered a case against Nayana Ajwani, Satish Punjabi, and others involved in the conspiracy. Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Dandge is leading the investigation.
This incident has raised serious concerns about locker safety and the accountability of bank officials. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the case and bring the culprits to justice. Further details about the incident will be disclosed as the investigation continues. Only after the investigation concludes will it become clear who is at fault – the bank manager or the customer.
undoubtedly, without key of locker hirer the Bank custodian can’t open any locker.
This is my personal suggestion that the facts finding enquiry must be made and possibilities can’t be denied from this point from point of view of deep enquiry that any other lockers may be tampered.
