Varanasi police have registered a case against a Punjab National Bank (PNB) cashier and several others for allegedly scamming a man under the pretense of providing a government job. The accused, instead of returning the money, allegedly threatened and assaulted the victim when he demanded a refund. The police are now investigating the case, including reviewing CCTV footage for evidence.
Victim Alleges Fraud and Threats
According to the complaint filed at Shivpur police station, Nitesh Kumar Dubey, a resident of Siswa (Babatpur) in Baragaon, accused PNB cashier Manoj Kumar Pandey of taking money from him under the false promise of securing a government job. When Nitesh asked for his money back, he was allegedly threatened and later attacked.
Nitesh claimed that Manoj Kumar Pandey and Neeraj Mishra, both residents of VDA Colony, Chandmari (Shivpur), asked him to come to VDA Colony on February 8 at around 12 noon to collect the amount. Manoj Kumar Pandey, who works as a cashier at Punjab National Bank in Sigra, was allegedly involved in the scam.
Physical Assault and Threats to Life
Nitesh went to the location with his wife, Ranjana, and his brother-in-law, Deepak Pandey, expecting to collect ₹9 lakh. However, instead of returning the money, Manoj Kumar Pandey, Neeraj Mishra, and seven to eight unidentified individuals allegedly threatened him to forget about the money.
“I pleaded with them, explaining that I had borrowed this money through a loan and desperately needed it back. But instead of returning it, they abused me and my family, assaulted us, and even broke my mobile phone, glasses, and watch,” Nitesh alleged.
During the assault, Nitesh suffered internal injuries, including a severe head injury that caused him to faint. His wife and brother-in-law intervened and managed to save him from further harm. Before leaving, the accused allegedly threatened to kill him if he pursued the matter further.
