A recent incident at an SBI branch has once again raised an important question: Should bank employees be expected to work without taking a lunch break?

According to reports, a customer visited an SBI branch and created chaos. He became upset because his work was not completed. The customer claimed that he had visited the branch multiple times. During lunch hours, he argued that the bank should have arranged another employee to handle customers while the concerned staff member was on a break. Watch video below 👇

What made the situation more concerning was that the customer reportedly went upstairs to the area where employees were having their lunch and created a disturbance. Such behavior is not acceptable and shows a lack of respect for bank staff.

Bank employees deal with hundreds of customers every day and perform a wide range of tasks, including cash transactions, account opening, loan processing, government scheme implementation, digital banking support, compliance work, and customer service. Despite this heavy workload, many bank branches across the country are facing severe staff shortages.

The public should understand that if a particular service is delayed or requires multiple visits, there may be genuine reasons behind it. Certain banking processes require verification, approvals, documentation checks, or technical clearances. Not every issue can be resolved immediately.

Lunch breaks are a basic necessity for every working professional. Employees in government offices, private companies, schools, hospitals, factories, and other workplaces are entitled to lunch breaks. Bank employees are no different. Expecting them to work continuously without food or rest is neither practical nor fair.

Mutual respect is essential for maintaining a healthy environment in bank branches. Customers deserve good service, and bank employees deserve dignity and respect while performing their duties. Creating chaos, disturbing staff during lunch breaks, or behaving aggressively is not the solution.
