Yash Mehta, a business consultant with Ernst & Young from Mumbai, has reported receiving threatening calls from HDFC Bank loan recovery agents. The calls ensued after a relative failed to pay an EMI of Rs 3,500. Mehta, an HDFC Bank account holder himself, expressed concern over the breach of privacy, as the agent possessed personal details known only to the bank.

Key Incidents:

  • The loan recovery agent, identified as Neha, allegedly abused Mehta’s father and grandfather, demanding EMI payment from them.
  • Mehta, unaware of the relative’s loan, questioned how the agent obtained his personal details and location information related to his work.

Complaint and Response:

  • Mehta filed a complaint with HDFC Bank, prompting a promise to investigate and respond by January 16.
  • HDFC Bank’s deputy manager assured Mehta of a thorough examination, but as of now, no concrete resolution has been provided.

Communications with HDFC Bank:

  • Mehta emailed HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan seeking expedited resolution.
  • The bank, in a response email, committed to prioritizing the query and ensuring an early resolution by or before January 16, 2024.

Next Steps:

  • Mehta, anticipating a quicker resolution, warned of approaching Mumbai Police and the RBI if HDFC Bank fails to address the issue promptly.
  • He contemplates presenting call recordings as evidence to demonstrate the abusive behavior of loan recovery agents towards him and his family.
