The Conciliation meeting between UFBU, Bank Management, Government and CLC was held on 22 september 2026. Discussions were held related to the proposed strike from 28 September to 30 September.

The UFBU representatives stated that they have the same stand as earlier. If there is some positive development in implementing 5 days banking, they can defer the strike. However, without a definite time-line they cannot avert the strike.

The UFBU emphasized that it is more than 30 months from when it was agreed to implement 5 days banking through joint note dated 08.03.2024. Enough time was there but the Govt. has not done anything in this context.

The DFS representatives submitted that the demand of 5 days banking is under consideration but the time-line cannot be given. However, apart from the 5 days banking, there are a lot of welfare measures Government has taken in the past for the bank employees and still taking including implementation of the process of 13th bipartite settlement.

Thus, the Government is proactive in furtherance of the interest of bank employees. The proposed three days strike is particularly significant from the operational perspective as they coincide with the half yearly closing period of the banks.

Thus the proposed action has the potential to impact the customer services which will cause a larger public inconvenience. Therefore, UFBU should consider these aspects to avert the strike.

The UFBU representatives submitted that they have been hearing the word active consideration since January 2026 but nothing has happened as yet. They have waited for 30 months and they are also ready to wait further if there is some timeline.

But if there is no development on this issue, they cannot consider for averting the strike. They are aware that there will be some public inconvenience and such also don’t want to go on a strike but due to the compelling circumstances of no decision on 5 days banking, they have to proceed further.

They stated that there is already two Saturdays off and they are asking for other two Saturdays off. They are ready to compensate the working hours by adding additional working hours on Monday to Friday. The 5 Day working is already there in RBI and other financial institutions. Hence, they should not be denied 5 days banking.

UFBU brought to the attention of the Dy. CLC that some of the bank managements are resorting to threats and intimidation of officers not to join the strike and urged upon him to advice the concerned managements suitably so that there is no precipitation from either side.
