Bank branches are already dealing with severe staff shortages. The extra workload from the Maharashtra Government’s scheme has made things even more challenging, often causing staff to work more than four extra hours each day. Additionally, many accounts are frozen, inactive, or not linked to Aadhaar, which takes a lot of time to resolve. To run the branches smoothly, the bank management and the government should come forward and resolve the issues. The bank should post more staff in the Maharashtra region and should also give compensation for extra work. Click here to join our Whatsapp channel to receive updates.

This is not an isolated incident; there have been multiple attacks on bank staff in Maharashtra. Bankers are increasingly feeling unsafe and have called on the state government to provide better protection. Read in detail here. The conditions in other bank branches are also the same. All the public sector banks are suffering from a huge rush of customers.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a prominent body representing bank employees, has recently raised concerns over the challenges faced by bank staff due to the state’s ambitious Ladki Bahin Yojana. In a detailed letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the UFBU has requested urgent assistance in the form of additional manpower and enhanced security measures. The UFBU’s letter emphasizes the urgent need for additional manpower and security measures at bank branches. With over 1.6 crore applications received under the scheme and more than 96 lakh beneficiaries already receiving the first two installments, the workload on bank employees is immense.

The Ladki Bahin Yojana is a commendable initiative aimed at empowering women across Maharashtra. However, the challenges faced by bank employees in managing the overwhelming rush of beneficiaries cannot be overlooked. The government and bank management should come forward and resolve the issues.
