PNB Nirav Modi Case Update: Purvi Modi Seeks to Record Statement Through Video Conference
Purvi Modi, the sister of fugitive businessman Nirav Modi, has approached a special CBI court in Mumbai seeking permission to record her statement through video conferencing in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.
Purvi Modi Wants to Become an Approver
Purvi Modi, who is a Belgian citizen and the younger sister of Nirav Modi, has already filed an application before the court seeking to become an approver in the case. An approver is an accused person who agrees to assist the investigation by giving evidence against the other accused.
CBI Wants Her Statement First
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the court that Purvi Modi’s statement must be recorded before her request to become an approver can be decided. Her lawyer has now requested the court to allow her to give the statement through video conferencing instead of appearing in person. The court has asked the prosecution to file its reply on her request.
Purvi Modi and her husband, Maiank Mehta, have already become approvers in a related money laundering case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Purvi Modi has been named as an accused in the PNB bank fraud case. The CBI and the ED have filed several charge sheets in connection with the case.
