Infosys has asked its technology employees to come to the office for at least 10 days each month. This move aims to bring more people back to the office. According to The Economic Times, the company sent an email to employees, asking them to reduce the number of work-from-home (WFH) days they request. This rule will take effect from March 10, 2025.
New System to Track Office Attendance
Infosys will introduce a new system to ensure employees follow the new work policy. The system will limit the number of WFH days employees can request each month. The company says this is necessary to ensure teamwork and collaboration while still allowing some flexibility.
A company executive explained, “Our hybrid work policy requires employees to work from the office for at least 10 days a month or as per business needs, whichever is more.”
Who Does This Apply To?
This rule applies to employees at Job Level 5 (JL5) and below, which includes:
- Team leaders (JL5)
- Software engineers
- Senior engineers
- System engineers
- Consultants
Higher-level managers (JL6 and above) are not affected by this policy. This includes managers, senior managers, delivery managers, and senior delivery managers. However, vice presidents are not included in this policy.
Tracking Attendance Through an App
Infosys employees use a mobile app to mark their attendance. After March 10, the app will no longer automatically approve WFH requests. Employees must record at least 10 office days per month.
Consequences of Not Meeting the Office Requirement
If an employee does not meet the required office days, the missing days will be deducted from their leave balance.
Some employees are unhappy with the decision. One employee mentioned that working from home saves time and reduces travel stress, helping them stay more productive. Another employee said that the new policy is based on project needs rather than team needs.
Other IT Companies Are Taking Similar Steps
Infosys’ competitor, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), already has a 5-day-per-week office policy. TCS has also linked office attendance to employees’ variable pay.
Infosys first introduced its return-to-office plan on November 20, 2023. The company also set a few weeks each quarter as “In-Person Collaboration” weeks, where all team members must work from the office.
