Arrest of the Accused and Investigation

Following the murder, Pankaj attempted to escape, but the police managed to apprehend him on Tuesday while he was waiting for a bus heading towards Kotputli on Patan bypass. The police had discovered Shikha’s lifeless body on Monday, June 17th, at 9 am near Bharaala turn on Patan Road, close to Neemkathana. Shikha was identified as a 30-year-old bank clerk at the Bhudoli branch of Baroda Rajasthan Regional Rural Bank. Her father, Satish Agarwal, filed a murder case against her husband, Pankaj Batra, who is 33 years old and resides in Alwar.

During the police interrogation, Pankaj revealed that he was tired of the constant arguments with Shikha, and they had been living separately for the past three months. Shikha had threatened to divorce him and file a case with the police, which caused him concern for his mother’s well-being. Pankaj further explained that Shikha was unable to adjust to his family, which led him to plan her murder.

Planning the Murder

Pankaj had contacted Shikha on June 14th and 15th, insisting that they meet. During these encounters, he repeatedly asked her to go on a drive, but Shikha refused for two days. On June 16th, he persuaded her to meet him at Nehru Park, where she cooked food for him and brought a tiffin. Finally, when Pankaj asked Shikha to accompany him on a drive, she agreed. They left together in the car towards Patan Road, and upon reaching a deserted spot at Bharaala turn, Pankaj stopped the car. It was there that he strangled Shikha and disposed of her body in the nearby fields. He also left the tiffin she had brought at the scene.

Investigation Details and Reenactment

The police confirmed that Pankaj had been planning the murder for three days and took the opportunity as soon as it arose. They found marks of scratching on Pankaj’s hands, suggesting a struggle had taken place. His medical examination was conducted as a result. Pankaj was also taken from Nehru Park to Jir Valley to recreate the scene, with videography of the location for further evidence.

Background of the Couple

Pankaj’s father had passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19, and in 2022, Pankaj secured a compassionate appointment at the Baroda Rajasthan Regional Rural Bank. Shikha had been working at the same bank since May 2021, and they both held clerk positions at the Raipur Patan (Neemkathana) branch. Pankaj proposed to Shikha, and with the consent of both families, they got married on December 4, 2023. After marriage, Shikha was transferred to the Bhudoli branch of the bank.
