The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to announce the much-awaited Mahila Samriddhi Scheme on Saturday, March 8, coinciding with Women’s Day 2025.

If implemented, the scheme will mark the beginning of BJP’s efforts to fulfill its election promises made during the Delhi Assembly polls. The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana was one of the key pledges in BJP’s manifesto. The Delhi cabinet is likely to convene today to discuss the proposal.

What is the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana?

The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is a financial assistance program announced by the BJP ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections. Under this scheme, eligible women in Delhi’s economically weaker sections will receive ₹2,500 per month as direct financial support.

The scheme is seen as BJP’s counter to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had promised ₹2,100 per month to women in Delhi. Similar initiatives have already been implemented in other NDA-ruled states, such as:

  • Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh
  • Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had previously announced that the scheme would be launched on March 8. To finalize its implementation, the Delhi cabinet is expected to discuss its guidelines, eligibility criteria, and rollout plan today.

Cabinet Meeting & Official Announcement

Sources quoted by news agency PTI suggest that a cabinet note on the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana may be presented before the Delhi cabinet meeting, chaired by CM Rekha Gupta, for approval.

The chief minister is also scheduled to attend the Delhi BJP’s Mahila Diwas event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at noon on Saturday, where she is expected to officially announce the scheme and provide further details.

Registration & Implementation Timeline

Last week, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari confirmed that registrations for the Mahila Samriddhi Scheme will begin on March 8. A list of eligible beneficiaries will be prepared, and the full process of disbursing ₹2,500 per month to qualifying women is expected to be completed within one-and-a-half months.

The cabinet is likely to discuss the final guidelines, eligibility criteria, and implementation roadmap before giving its approval.
