A major conflict has erupted between lawyers and the district administration regarding the measurement of land. The situation has escalated to the point that chaos ensued, and the District Magistrate’s (DM) driver was beaten. As tensions continue to rise, the entire collectorate area has been transformed into a camp to manage the situation.
Events Leading to the Conflict
The incident began in the Barhaj tehsil area when lawyer Jayashiv Shukla expressed concerns about a road that was constructed on a portion of his field by the Public Works Department (PWD). The matter took a serious turn when the president of the district bar association visited the DM’s chamber to discuss the removal of the road. During the conversation, an argument broke out between Sinhasan Giri and DM Akhand Pratap Singh, leading to a heated exchange.
Lawyers’ Protest and Alleged Assault
Word of the confrontation spread quickly, attracting a large number of lawyers who gathered near the DM’s chamber to protest. During this time, it is alleged that some individuals beat the DM’s driver, who was also recording the incident, and snatched his mobile phone. The Superintendent of Police (SP) was informed of the chaos and promptly arrived at the scene along with a substantial police force. Since then, there has been a heavy police presence in the collectorate area to maintain order.
Demands and Accusations
The president of the bar association, Sinhasan Giri, claimed that despite his position, the DM treated him rudely and refused to apologize. Giri demanded an apology, citing that four days prior, the administration had acknowledged that the road was constructed incorrectly during a measurement. However, the DM insisted that the road construction was completed and that no further action could be taken. This disagreement led to further arguments, with the lawyers demanding an apology from the DM. Giri accused the DM of various wrongdoings and threats, emphasizing that the lawyers would continue to fight and protest until appropriate action is taken by the administration.
Current Situation and Efforts to Resolve the Conflict
The entire collectorate area remains on high alert as efforts are made to defuse the situation. However, the lawyers involved in the conflict remain steadfast and are not willing to compromise. The district administration and police are working to manage the tensions and find a resolution to the dispute.
