The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a bank employee who was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for approving a loan for a resident of Mohalla Adarsh Nagar, Garhmukteshwar, Hapur. The incident took place at the bank premises, starting around 3 pm and continuing into the late evening. In addition to apprehending the employee, the CBI officers gathered information regarding other loan-related activities and seized relevant documents from the scene. They also searched the accused’s car and discovered additional documents, prompting further action.
Background:
The incident unfolded when Deepak Kumar, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, applied for a loan of Rs 4 lakh at the Punjab National Bank branch on Meerut Road approximately two months ago. The field officer responsible for approving the loan demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, supposedly to be shared with other bank officials. Deepak reported the matter to higher authorities and sought intervention.
CBI Operation:
On Tuesday afternoon, around 12 o’clock, a CBI team from Ghaziabad arrived in Garh Nagar in two separate vehicles. They met with Deepak, applied a powder to him for identification purposes, and provided him with Rs 20,000. They also sent one of their personnel to accompany Deepak to the bank, while the rest of the team remained outside. Upon reaching the bank branch, the field officer took Deepak to a room and attempted to accept the bribe. At that moment, CBI officers and personnel stationed outside the bank apprehended the accused, catching him in the act. The incident caused panic among other bank employees and individuals present at the bank.
Investigation and Further Action:
Following the arrest, CBI officials conducted a thorough investigation, examining loan-related documents associated with the accused employee and reviewing the bank’s CCTV footage. They also conducted a meticulous search of the employee’s car. The team took possession of the documents discovered at the scene and initiated further proceedings. At the time of reporting, CBI officials refrained from providing detailed statements to the media but assured that action would be taken throughout the night.
