The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Group General Manager (GGM) of M/s Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Limited, a Central Government Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, along with two private individuals, including the Director of a private company and another accomplice. The arrests followed the payment of a Rs. 10 lakh bribe to the accused GGM.
Bridge And Roof Company (India) Limited is a Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) of the Government of India, based in Kolkata, India. The company began in 1920. Bridge And Roof Co. (India) Ltd., is a construction organization, encompassing industrial and infrastructure sectors in India as well as abroad. It also undertakes EPC and Turnkey contracts. Bridge And Roof is a ‘Total Solutions’ conglomerate for providing Design, Engineering and Construction Services through various modes of contract such as EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), Unit Rate Contract and Open Book Estimate (OBE), PMC (Project Management Consultancy) from ‘Concept to Commissioning’ whilst maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
Case Details
- Registration of Case:
On December 7, 2024, the CBI registered a case against four individuals, including the GGM of the PSU, the Director of a Bhubaneswar-based private company, another private individual, the Bhubaneswar-based company, and other unknown public and private persons. - Allegations:
The GGM was allegedly involved in corrupt practices, including accepting bribes for awarding work orders and clearing bills. It was claimed that on December 6, 2024, the Director of the private company met the GGM at his office in Bhubaneswar, where the GGM demanded a Rs. 10 lakh bribe. The GGM reportedly assured the Director that the amount would be adjusted in future bill payments.
CBI Operation
- Trap and Arrest:
On December 7, 2024, the CBI conducted a trap operation and caught the GGM red-handed while accepting the Rs. 10 lakh bribe from the private company Director. The bribe amount was recovered during the operation. - Role of Co-Conspirator:
Another private individual was also apprehended for facilitating the bribe exchange and abetting the illegal activities.
Searches and Recoveries
- Searches were conducted at eight locations across Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Kolkata (West Bengal).
- Incriminating documents, a vehicle used in the offense, and digital devices were seized during the searches.
