The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the branch manager of the Sikhola branch of Baroda UP Bank in Azamgarh while he was accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The accused was caught red-handed while demanding money from an account holder in exchange for allowing the withdrawal of sanctioned loan funds.
According to CBI officials, the complainant had taken a loan under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and Dairy Loan schemes. When he approached the bank to withdraw the approved amount, the branch manager allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹20,000. The manager warned the complainant that without the payment, he would not be allowed to access his loan funds. Distressed by the demand, the victim reported the matter to the CBI.
CBI Lays Trap, Catches Manager Red-Handed
The CBI registered the case on March 12, 2025, and swiftly acted on the complaint. On March 11, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI set up a trap and caught the accused while he was taking the bribe. The manager was immediately arrested and is now being produced before the special CBI court in Lucknow (CBI Court No. 6).
Corruption in Bank Loan Disbursement
This incident highlights a persistent issue in the banking sector, particularly in rural areas, where officials allegedly demand bribes for processing loans under government schemes. Farmers and small borrowers often face exploitation by middlemen and corrupt officials when trying to access their rightful funds.
CBI officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further revelations may emerge. There is a possibility that more officials could be involved in similar corrupt practices.
Public Urged to Report Corruption
Following this case, both the CBI and the bank administration have urged the public to report any demand for bribes by bank officials. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against corrupt employees. This crackdown is expected to send a strong message and instill fear among those involved in such unethical activities.
The case has also raised concerns about the transparency and integrity of banking operations, especially in rural areas where farmers rely on loans for their livelihoods. The CBI’s action is seen as a crucial step in tackling corruption in financial institutions.
