CBI Arrests Bank Manager and Peon for Taking Bribe in Baroda UP Bank

In a shocking incident on Friday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the manager and a peon of the Baroda UP Bank’s Rampur Awasthi Dhuswa branch. The arrests were made after the two were caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 3500. The CBI team, acting on a tip-off, nabbed both the bank employees and left for Lucknow with them around 9 PM that evening.

How the Incident Unfolded

Manish Gupta, a resident of Lagada village under the Bariyarpur police station area, had been trying to secure a loan from the bank for several days but faced delays and obstacles. Frustrated, Manish eventually met the bank’s peon, Anoop, who made him an offer—if he paid Rs 3500, Anoop would ensure that the loan would be approved quickly, with help from the bank manager, Prince Jaiswal.

Feeling something was amiss, Manish decided to report the situation to the CBI. The agency swiftly set up a sting operation to catch the bank employees in the act.

The Sting Operation

On Friday, the CBI team stationed themselves outside the Baroda UP Bank branch in Rampur Awasthi Dhuswa. As per the plan, Manish handed Rs 3500 to peon Anoop inside the bank. The moment the money exchanged hands, a team of 10 to 12 CBI officers stormed the bank and apprehended Anoop while he was still holding the cash.

To ensure the situation was under control, the CBI cleared out more than 20 account holders who were present in the bank at the time, and they locked the gate from the inside to prevent any interference.

Bank Employees Questioned

Following the arrests, the CBI team interrogated the bank employees, including the manager, Prince Jaiswal, for nearly an hour. By 8:45 PM, the questioning was completed, and both the bank manager and the peon were taken into custody and transported to Lucknow for further investigation.

Official Statements and Next Steps

The regional manager of Baroda UP Bank, Dharamveer, along with the in-charge of Bariyarpur police station, Dr. Mahendra Kumar, were present during the entire operation.

CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amit Rathi later confirmed that the peon, Anoop, had been caught accepting a bribe on the instructions of the bank manager. He stated that legal action will be taken against both the manager and the peon under the relevant laws.

Conclusion

This incident highlights the continued efforts by the CBI to tackle corruption and bribery in public institutions. The swift action taken by the agency serves as a reminder that bribery and corruption will not be tolerated, and those involved in such activities will be held accountable.
