Ludhiana: Almost 10 months after Ravinder Kumar, a resident of New Azad Nagar, died by suicide, the Sahnewal police have filed a case of abetment to suicide against a bank employee named Arun Kumar from Giaspura. Ravinder took his life on December 12, 2023, and later, his family found a suicide note in their home. This led them to file a police complaint, which resulted in an FIR against Arun Kumar.
According to Ravinder’s brother, Surinder Kumar, the tragedy began when Ravinder took a loan from the bank to buy property. Unfortunately, he was unable to make the payments on time. Because of the missed payments, Arun Kumar, a bank employee, filed a case in the civil court to recover the loan amount.
Surinder explained that the pressure from the court case deeply affected Ravinder. He became very stressed and eventually fell into depression, unable to handle the financial and emotional burden. The family believes that the legal case filed by Arun Kumar played a significant role in Ravinder’s emotional breakdown.
On December 12, 2023, Ravinder ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in their home. His family was devastated, but it wasn’t until months later that they discovered a suicide note. The note, they claim, revealed the reasons behind his decision to take such a tragic step, including the distress caused by the loan recovery case.
After finding the suicide note, the family immediately informed the Sahnewal police, who then began an investigation. A case has now been registered under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with abetment to suicide, against Arun Kumar.
ASI Dharminder Singh, the officer handling the case, confirmed that while the case has been filed, no arrests have been made so far. The police are continuing to investigate the matter and gather more evidence to fully understand what led to Ravinder’s suicide.
The victim’s family hopes that justice will be served and that those responsible for Ravinder’s distress and eventual death will be held accountable. For now, the investigation remains ongoing, and the police are working to uncover more details surrounding the case.
