BSNL, or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, has fallen victim to a data breach, with reports indicating that hackers are selling stolen data of thousands of BSNL internet and landline users on the dark web.
According to an ET report, a hacker known as “Perell” has surfaced on the dark web, claiming to possess critical information about users of a telecom company’s services, specifically those utilizing fibre and landline connections from BSNL in India.

The hacker is said to possess sensitive information, including email addresses, billing details, contact numbers, and other sensitive data. Besides this, information like mobile outage records, network details, completed orders, and customer information etc have also been compromised, reported ET, citing a person with knowledge of the development.

Despite BSNL’s lack of public acknowledgment regarding the breach, an unnamed source familiar with the situation has emphasized the severity of the incident, highlighting the immediate threat it poses to the privacy and security of BSNL customers.

The hacker has shared approximately 32,000 lines of information, but “Perell” claims to have acquired around 2.9 million lines of data from all databases, including district-wise details of BSNL customers. While BSNL has not publicly addressed the breach, the Indian cybersecurity agency Cert-In has reportedly been informed.
