Baryl Vannaisangi won the recently held Mizoram assembly election from the Aizawl South-III constituency – becoming the youngest woman MLA in the state. A member of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Baryl secured victory with a total of 9,370 votes, defeating Mizo National Front’s (MNF) candidate F Lalnunmawia.

The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured a dominant victory in the Mizoram assembly election, claiming 27 out of 40 seats and displacing the Mizo National Front (MNF), which led by Zoramthanga, now reduced to 10 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), contesting 23 seats, secured two constituencies, while the Indian National Congress won a solitary seat. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), participating in four seats for the first time, failed to secure any.
In a noteworthy development, three women candidates emerged victorious in the state assembly election: Baryl Vanneihsangi and Lalrinpuii from ZPM in Aizawl South-III and Lunglei East constituencies, respectively, and MNF candidate Prova Chakma. It’s worth mentioning that the outgoing Mizoram Assembly did not have any women MLAs.
