UFBU serves Strike Notice to IBA and CLC – All India Strike in Banks on 11 September 2026
United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has served a strike notice to IBA and CLC. The strike is being conducted in demand of 5-Day Banking and withdrawal of PLI. UFBU will conduct All India Strike on 11 September 2026. After it, All India Strike will be conducted continuously on 28,29,30 September 2026. If the Government does not accept the demands, then bank employees will go on indefinite strike from 26 October 2026.
The issue of 5-Day Banking has been in news for the last 10 years. Earlier, in the Settlement/Joint Note signed on 23-5-2015, it was agreed by the Indian Banks’ Association that efforts would be made to declare all Saturdays as holiday. In the Settlement/Joint Note signed on 11-11-2020, the issue was further discussed and the IBA assured that the demand would be further discussed.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the unions/ associations and the Indian Banks’ Association on 7-12-2023, where it is written that the recommendation for declaring all Saturdays as holidays under the NI Act for Banking Industry in line with earlier negotiations with unions/ associations had already been sent to the Govt. But Government has till now, not announced the 5-day banking.
The 2nd reason of strike is new PLI Scheme. Under the new PLI scheme, senior executives – Scale 4 and above will get PLI upto Rs.20 lac per year whereas officers upto Scale 3 will get PLI only upto Rs.50,000. Bank Employees call it discriminatory and the new PLI scheme has been introduced in the banks without consultation with the unions.
