Mehul Choksi, the most wanted man in Rs.13,500 crore scam in Punjab National Bank has filed India when the scam came to light. It’s been several years but Mehul Choksi is not returning to India. Indians are always questioning – where is Mehul Choksi? But now as per media reports, the location of Mehul Choksi has been traced.
Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, who is wanted in India for his involvement in the ₹13,500-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, is now reportedly living in Antwerp, Belgium. According to a media report, Choksi has obtained a residency permit, known as the ‘F Residency Card,’ and is residing there with his wife, Preeti Choksi, who holds Belgian citizenship.
Indian authorities have reached out to Belgian officials, requesting Choksi’s extradition. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian government regarding the latest developments.
Choksi had been living in Antigua and Barbuda since 2018 after fleeing India. Reports now suggest that he relocated to Belgium to avoid legal action and extradition to India.
According to the report, Choksi allegedly used false documents and misleading declarations to obtain Belgian residency. He reportedly failed to inform Belgian authorities about his dual citizenship status in India and Antigua, which is considered a serious violation in immigration procedures.
Sources also claim that Choksi is planning to relocate to Switzerland for medical treatment. He is reportedly seeking care at a well-known cancer hospital in the country.
Background: The ₹13,500-Crore PNB Scam
Mehul Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, is accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank of ₹13,500 crore by using fake Letters of Undertaking (LoUs). While Choksi fled India and obtained citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda, Nirav Modi is currently in a London jail. He is contesting his extradition to India and has been denied bail multiple times by UK courts.
Choksi’s Escape and Return to Antigua
In May 2021, Mehul Choksi briefly went missing from Antigua, sparking speculation about his whereabouts. He was later found in Dominica and eventually returned to Antigua after a controversial legal battle.
Mehul Choksi’s current stay in Belgium and the allegations surrounding his fraudulent residency application have added another chapter to his ongoing legal troubles. His case continues to be closely monitored as Indian authorities pursue efforts to bring him back to face justice.
