The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) has taken up the issue of pending wage revision for employees of CSB Bank (Catholic Syrian Bank) with the bank’s top management.

CSB Bank Limited (erstwhile Catholic Syrian Bank Limited) is an Indian private sector bank with its headquarters at Thrissur city, Kerala, India. The bank has a network of over 862 branches and 832 ATMs across India.

According to an AIBEA circular dated September 5, 2026, employees of CSB Bank are still being paid salaries as per the 10th Bipartite Settlement, as wage revision under the 11th and 12th Bipartite Settlements has not been extended to them.

AIBEA said that the then management of the bank had not even given a mandate to the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) for the bank to be covered under the industry-level wage revision.

The association said that employees and officers of CSB Bank have raised the issue several times and observed 13 strikes, including a one-day strike by all other bank employees and officers in Kerala.

However, the management continued to remain firm on the issue. The matter was later discussed at the recently held AIBEA Conference in Bengaluru, where a resolution was adopted demanding immediate wage revision in CSB Bank.

The conference also decided that if the management continued to deny the wage revision, AIBEA would take up the matter with the management and, if necessary, launch agitational programmes.

Following the conference decision, AIBEA approached the top management of CSB Bank for a meeting to discuss the issue. The management agreed to meet the representatives in Chennai on September 5, 2026.

Accordingly, AIBEA representatives held a meeting with Shri Pralay Mondal, MD & CEO of CSB Bank. Shri Chinmay Adhikari, CHRO, and Shri Sesha Srinivas, Head-ER, of the bank were also present. Com. Sivaramakrishnan, President of the Union, and Com. Joseph Kuriakose, General Secretary of the Union, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, AIBEA representatives urged the management to take an early decision to extend wage revision to employees of CSB Bank. The MD explained the present situation of the bank and assured the representatives that an early decision would be taken and communicated to them.

AIBEA said that any further delay in the matter would force the association to take up the demand through an agitational programme.

However, PSU bank employees are not happy with this development. They believe that the unions representing public sector bank employees should primarily focus on the issues and concerns of PSU bank employees.

Many PSU bankers feel that their unions should give priority to matters related to public sector banks, including their employees, service conditions, wages, promotions, transfers and other banking-related issues.

They also believe that private banks have their own managements and employee unions, and therefore, PSU bank unions should not unnecessarily get involved in issues related to private sector banks.

They want that the unions should first focus on resolving the pending issues faced by employees of public sector banks before taking up matters concerning private banks.
