A Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) from Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district is currently under police investigation and has been suspended following allegations that he ordered the assault of two youths who overtook his official vehicle.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday around 5 pm when the vehicle carrying the youths overtook the SDM’s car. Three individuals, believed to be associated with the SDM, confronted the youths after intercepting them.

A brief nine-second video of the incident shows an SDM-designated Mahindra Scorpio parked behind a Maruti Suzuki. In the video, two men are seen hitting one of the youths on his leg multiple times and also vandalizing the car.

Expressing concern over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the suspension of SDM Amit Singh and emphasized that such inhumane treatment of citizens would not be tolerated. An FIR has been filed against Amit Singh and three others involved in the assault. The injured youths have been admitted to the district hospital.

SDM Singh, however, denies giving orders for the assault, claiming that the youths were engaged in drunk driving. He asserted that, while on law and order duty during the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony, he intervened to prevent the youths from driving recklessly.

Singh stated, “I was not present at the spot. I tried to stop them. I have a rod installed in my leg and could not have assaulted anyone. I am trying to file a counter-FIR. So far, the police have not called me for questioning.”

One of the injured individuals refuted Singh’s claims, alleging, “They got out of a car with the SDM sticker pasted on it and kept hitting us. We overtook (the SDM’s car) but caused no damage. I sustained injuries to my head and hand after I was assaulted with a wooden stick by six people.”
