SBI News: Fake Document Scam, Rs 1.06 Crore Loan Taken from SBI Daliganj Branch, 17 People Named in FIR

A major loan fraud has been uncovered at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Daliganj, Hasanganj, where 11 individuals are accused of illegally obtaining loans worth ₹1.06 crore using fake documents. SBI’s Regional Manager, Vipin Singh, filed an FIR on Monday at Hasanganj police station against 17 people, including the 11 loan applicants, 3 middlemen, and 3 bank officials. According to Vipin Singh, the fraud took place between July 15, 2023, and January 30, 2024, under the Express Credit Loan scheme. During this period, the loan activity at the branch saw a sudden and unusual rise, which raised suspicions and led to an internal investigation.
The bank’s investigation revealed that the accused used forged documents such as fake salary slips, KYC details, and date of birth certificates to obtain the loans. The documents were approved without proper verification, indicating a clear violation of bank protocols. The probe further found that some bank employees were actively involved in the scam along with external middlemen. It has been alleged that Amit Jain, the then Manager of Banking Operations, shared confidential bank login IDs and passwords with the middlemen. Sanjeev Tripathi, the then Branch Manager, and Field Officer Amrita Chatterjee have also been named in the FIR for negligence in checking the authenticity of the documents and failing to follow proper procedures.
The 11 accused loan applicants are Gabbar, Mrs. Kusuma, Gopal Singh, Vinay Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Dharampal, Vijay Kumar, Akeel, Ram Gopal, Udayveer Singh, and Abdul Hafiz. The named middlemen are Sarvesh Kumar, Sumit Kumar, and Dali Singh from Ambedkar Nagar. All three bank officials mentioned—Sanjeev Tripathi, Amrita Chatterjee, and Amit Jain—are accused of playing a role in enabling the fraud. After collecting all necessary evidence, Regional Manager Vipin Singh submitted a formal complaint to the police commissioner, based on which a case has now been registered. Police are expected to begin questioning all the accused as the investigation moves forward.
