Dantewada police have arrested a senior SBI bank manager and a district hospital accountant for their involvement in a fraud case. They, along with four others, allegedly withdrew ₹66.75 lakh by forging the signature of the Civil Surgeon of Dantewada District Hospital. Following their arrest, both have been sent to jail.

Forgery Uncovered in DMF Fund Withdrawal

The fraud came to light when the Civil Surgeon, who also serves as the Hospital Superintendent, lodged a complaint at Dantewada City Kotwali police station. He reported irregularities in the withdrawal of ₹66.75 lakh under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The money was allegedly withdrawn using forged signatures.

Upon receiving the complaint, police launched an investigation, registering an FIR against the prime accused, Abhijeet Singh Chauhan, along with Arpana Chauhan, Saurabh Sud, and Mohammad Tausif Raza.

Police Investigation and Arrests

During the probe, it was discovered that Nishant Thakur (38), Senior Manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) Dantewada branch, and Sutapa Kundu (33), Assistant Accountant at the Civil Surgeon’s office, were also involved in the fraud. Based on this evidence, police filed an FIR against them and took them into custody.

Following interrogation, the court ordered their arrest, and both were sent to jail.

Authorities Continue Investigation

SDOP Govind Singh Dewan confirmed that a thorough investigation was conducted, revealing the direct involvement of the SBI manager and the hospital accountant in the fraudulent transactions. Legal action has been taken against them.

Meanwhile, four other individuals, including two vendors, an accountant, and a private account holder, have been released on bail. Police are still reviewing documents related to the case and continuing their investigation.
