Udaipur: Thieves attempted to break into Kotra branch of Punjab National Bank in Udaipur late last night. The branch is located just 150 meters from the Kotra police station, raising serious questions about security in the area.

The incident took place around 2:30 am, when miscreants tried to enter the bank by making a two-foot hole in the side wall. Taking advantage of darkness due to a power cut caused by continuous rain for the past three days, the thieves tried to commit the theft.

However, nearby residents woke up after hearing the sound of the wall being broken. When they came out, they spotted two young men, who immediately fled the scene. People said they had been hearing noises for some time before stepping out of their homes.

In the morning, a large crowd gathered at the spot. Kotra police station officer Mughalaram and bank officials reached the site, inspected the damage, and collected information. The bank manager lodged a formal complaint at the police station.

Police are now scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the culprits.
