The court has handed down sentences to eight individuals involved in a brazen daylight robbery at a rural bank in the Pisawa police station area of Aligarh. Finding the accused guilty, the court has imposed prison terms. The court’s ruling comes 14 years after the incident, bringing relief to the bank.

The trial was underway in the court of ADJ I Sanjeev Kumar Singh in Aligarh. Based on witness testimonies and police evidence, the court has convicted the perpetrators. Each culprit has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, accompanied by a fine of Rs 25,000 each.

Assistant District Government Advocate Amar Singh Tomar revealed that a daylight robbery occurred on February 9, 2010, at the Shreyas Gramin Bank in Palseda, within the Pisawa police station jurisdiction. Following a complaint by bank manager Lal Bahadur, the police initiated an investigation.

Bahadur claimed that on the day of the incident, he was working on the bank’s computer when 5-6 armed individuals stormed in. Upon inquiry by bank staff, they forcibly entered the manager and cashier’s cabins, brandishing weapons.

Using their weapons, the culprits seized the mobile phones of the manager, cashier, and other employees before locking them in a storeroom. Subsequently, they looted Rs 15,60,952 from the bank’s holdings. After the robbers fled, the employees managed to free themselves, raised an alarm, and informed the police with the assistance of locals.

Following the bank manager’s complaint, the police commenced an investigation. Three months later, on May 15, 2010, the police uncovered the incident and apprehended all the accused. Eight individuals were named in the case. A charge sheet was filed against them in court, and the trial proceedings continued uninterrupted.
