
In Dhampur (Bijnor), the police have arrested Ramavatar Prasad, the son of Sukai, a retired branch manager of Dhampur Sugar Mill Punjab National Bank branch. He has been accused of embezzling Rs 27 lakh through fake documents in the names of nine individuals. Prasad, a resident of Buddhist Vihar Colony in Moradabad, was apprehended after an investigation into the alleged embezzlement.
Details of the Embezzlement
During his tenure as the branch manager in Dhampur, Ram Avtar Prasad is alleged to have embezzled Rs 27 lakh by creating fraudulent documents in the names of nine local residents. The embezzlement came to light when Manju Sagar, the current branch manager at Sugar Mill Punjab National Bank, reviewed the loan section records. The individuals in whose names the loans were taken were issued notices to repay the loans. However, they claimed that the loans were fake and refused to make the payments.
Investigation and Arrest
Upon receiving the complaints, the concerned authorities investigated the matter and prepared a report. The investigation revealed that the embezzlement was carried out by taking fake loans of Rs 3 lakh each in the names of the nine individuals involved. Ram Avtar Prasad, the retired branch manager, denies any knowledge of the embezzlement, stating that he retired in 2017 and is unaware of how and when it occurred. Currently, Prasad resides in Moradabad’s Buddhist Vihar Colony with his family.
The police have arrested Ramavatar Prasad, the accused retired branch manager, and have issued a challan in connection with the case.
Individuals Affected by the Embezzlement
The embezzlement scheme targeted residents of two villages. The nine individuals in whose names fake documents were prepared and loans amounting to Rs 27 lakh were embezzled are as follows:
- Pawan Kumar, son of Ramkumar
- Veer Singh, son of Harpal Singh, resident of village Basera Khurd in the Dhampur police station area
- Nirmal, son of Kanhaiya
- Yadram, son of Kanhaiya
- Rajpal, son of Shyam Singh, resident of village Kalali Bhavagati
- Nathu, husband of Ramkumar
- Ram Singh, son of Nathu
These individuals were unknowingly involved in the embezzlement scheme and have been impacted by the fraudulent activities of the retired bank branch manager.
