The trouble has increased for AAP MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra and his three close relatives in Rs 40.02 crore bank fraud case.
After the Enforcement Directorate (ED), now the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also registered a case in this matter.
CBI has taken action against MLA Gajjanmajra, his brothers Balwant Singh, Kulwant Singh and Tejinder Singh under various sections. CBI has registered a case against the accused under sections of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The accused in the case had filed anticipatory bail applications in the CBI Special Court. After hearing arguments from the CBI and the defense, the Special Judge granted the bail applications of all four accused.
The court directed all accused to surrender before the court on or before the next hearing date. The court also clarified that upon surrender, the trial court may grant them bail with appropriate conditions.
What is the case all about?
Pramod Chandra Sharma, Deputy Zonal Manager (Recovery) of Bank of India, filed a written complaint on December 1, 2020 alleging misuse of cash credit facilities granted to M/s Tara Corporation Limited.
The alleged irregularities resulted in a loss of ₹40.02 crore to the bank. An investigation revealed that the company in question is a public limited firm, incorporated on November 19, 2010.
It was involved in the trade of agricultural products. The company periodically availed itself of credit facilities by providing collateral security and pledging stock, but subsequently defaulted.
Jaswant Singh GajjanMajra, an AAP MLA, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a bank fraud case after being detained from a public meeting in Malerkotla on November 6, 2023. He was taken into custody under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after he was detained by agency officials from a public meeting he was holding in Malerkotla.
