- Over 41,000 Resignations: In the fiscal year 2023, more than 41,000 employees working at Reliance Jio decided to leave their jobs.
- Retail Division Impact: From Reliance’s retail division, around 119,229 employees left during the same time.
- Higher Attrition Rates: The rate at which employees left increased significantly by 64.8 percent compared to the previous fiscal year, FY22.
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) saw many employees leaving their jobs on their own in the retail and telecom parts of the company in the year 2022-23. More than 41,000 workers in Jio and over 1 lakh employees in Reliance retail decided to resign. Based on the company’s yearly reports, the rate at which employees left, called attrition rates, increased by 64.8 percent compared to the year before (FY22).
This increase in people leaving was partly because of having too many people doing similar jobs after RIL bought a lot of other companies in retail. Some workers wanted to do different jobs, and others went to work in different places where a lot of hiring was happening.
In total, 167,391 employees left RIL during FY23. This includes 119,229 from the retail division and 41,818 from Jio. Most of the people who left were in junior and middle management positions. Even though more people were leaving, RIL also hired new employees. They brought in 262,558 people in FY23 for different parts of their businesses. The report also says that RIL made more people leave on purpose to save money and get rid of workers who weren’t performing well.
Earlier in May this year, RIL’s online shopping platform, JioMart, reportedly cut costs by letting go of 1,000 workers. There were talks of more people being let go, but the exact number was not officially confirmed.
