Karnataka plans to establish SWIFT City Near Bengaluru to Boost Startup Ecosystem
The Karnataka government has announced plans to develop a new city called SWIFT (Startups, Workspaces, Innovation, Finance, and Technology) near Sarjapur, Bengaluru. This city will be similar to the recently launched KWIN city, aiming to boost the startup ecosystem and strengthen Bengaluru’s position as a tech hub.
Karnataka Minister MB Patil revealed that SWIFT city will be built on over 1,000 acres of land, located close to key IT hubs and well-connected to National Highways 44 and 48. He emphasized that the city will become a major industrial hub, much like ITPL and Electronic City, and will serve as a new hotspot for startups in Bengaluru.
“SWIFT city will be another landmark industrial hub in Karnataka. It will be built on more than 1,000 acres near Sarjapur and become a new start-up hotspot for the city,” said MB Patil.
The city will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including 8 to 10 Plug-and-Play facilities spread across 20–25 acres each. It will also have 150-meter wide connecting roads, modern office spaces, co-working areas, residential blocks, and schools. The government plans to offer land parcels ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 square feet to startups through lease, sale, or equity-sharing models.
In addition to SWIFT city, the Karnataka government plans to expand Bengaluru’s success across the state by developing five Mini KWIN Cities in places like Vijayapura and Hubballi-Dharwad. More details on these projects will be shared during the upcoming Invest Karnataka summit, according to Minister Patil.
Earlier this year, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City, a parallel city to Bengaluru aimed at ensuring equal growth and opportunities across all sectors. Located about 60 kilometers from Bengaluru, the KWIN city will be built on 2,000 acres of land and is expected to play a significant role in the growth of Karnataka’s economy.
Minister Patil had earlier stated that KWIN city will contribute significantly to India’s GDP growth.
