Job Scam: Two college dropouts in Gujarat earned Rs 60 crore in 3 months by offering fake jobs

Two guys from Gujarat who dropped out of college tricked people into giving them Rs 60 crore in three months. They did this by promising online jobs and investments with high salaries and profits.
The Mumbai Police caught Rupesh Pravikumar Thakkar, 33, and Pankajbhai Govardhan Oad, 34, after a teenager lost Rs 2.45 lakh to them. The police found Rs 1.1 crore in their bank accounts and froze it. Further investigation showed that they cheated many others, totaling Rs 60 crore. However, the main person behind the scam is still on the run, and the police think he might be hiding in London.
The scam was revealed when a 19-year-old student, Krish, reported to the police in October. He saw an online job offer to write restaurant reviews, promising a weekly salary of Rs 10,000 and daily bonuses of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.
Krish also said a woman named Maria convinced him to invest Rs 1,000, promising a profit of Rs 300. She claimed higher investments would bring higher profits. Krish ended up investing Rs 2.45 lakh but couldn’t withdraw his earnings.
Senior Inspector Deepak Chavan from the Matunga police station said that Krish’s case led to the arrest of the two cheaters. Cybercrime officials helped catch them.
