Indian Post GDS Recruitment Scam: CBI Conducts Major Search Operation in Odisha Over GDS Recruitment Fraud 2023

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has carried out a major search operation today across 12 locations in five districts of Odisha. This action is part of the ongoing investigation into the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment Fraud 2023. The CBI launched this investigation on May 9, 2023, after the Chief Postmaster General of the Odisha Circle in Bhubaneswar reported that some candidates used fake matriculation certificates to secure jobs during the 2023 GDS recruitment process.

The CBI conducted these searches in several districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Kendujhar. They focused on the properties of individuals involved in the scam, such as middlemen and those responsible for producing fake matriculation certificates from the Uttar Pradesh Board and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). During the search, the CBI recovered several important documents and items that provide clear evidence of the fraudulent activities.

In connection with this case, the CBI has already filed charges against 58 people. This includes 55 candidates who submitted fake certificates and three middlemen who facilitated the fraud. The charges were filed on December 30, 2024, in the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Bhubaneswar. The investigation is ongoing, and the CBI is working to identify more candidates involved in the scam and uncover the main individuals behind the forgery of certificates and mark sheets. The goal is to fully expose the scale of this fraud.
