Google pays massive ₹1,337.76 crore penalty in India: Will it change their anti-competitive ways?

Google has paid the entire penalty of ₹1,337.76 crore, which was imposed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the Android case. Sources report that the penalty amount has been deposited in the Consolidated Fund of India, within the given thirty-day period, as stated by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

While the NCLAT upheld the penalty imposed on Google by the CCI, it set aside four of the ten non-monetary conditions. This move brings some partial relief for Google. The company had to comply with six non-monetary directions within a 30-day time period, failing which legal action could be taken against it.

The Android appeal case is a high-profile legal battle that has been ongoing for several years, centered around allegations of anti-competitive practices by Google.
