Bank officials attempting to take possession of a farmer’s house in Mahal Kalan village, Barnala, faced strong opposition from the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan. As a result, the bank officials were forced to return empty-handed.

According to farmer leaders Jarnail Singh Badra, Bukan Singh, Bhagat Singh Channa, and Judge Singh Gehal, Sukhwinder Singh, a landless farmer in the village, had taken a loan of 10 lakhs from Punjab National Bank on July 7, 2018. Out of this amount, PNB retained two lakh rupees for advance installments and provided eight lakh rupees to Sukhwinder Singh for purchasing a buffalo. Sukhwinder Singh made installments of about two lakhs, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he was unable to continue making payments, leading to an increase in the debt.

Consequently, PNB officials arrived with a possession warrant for Sukhwinder Singh’s house, which was vehemently opposed by BKU Ugrahan. As a result, the bank officials had to leave without taking possession. The farmer leaders stated that under no circumstances should the victim farmer’s house be confiscated and occupied. They have demanded that the government and the bank waive off the loan for Sukhwinder Singh.

  1. Great. The farmers’union wants the loan (10L)to be treated as a grant/gift. How will bank pay depositors? Just bc depositors dont come out on the streets and suffer risk & low interest rates, does not mean they can be ill-treated❓❓❓
