In a strict action against electricity bill defaulters, the Electricity Department of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) conducted an intensive checking drive on Monday under the leadership of SDO Praveen Maurya. The campaign targeted consumers who had never paid their electricity bills, resulting in multiple disconnections and legal action.
Key Actions Taken During the Drive
- Electricity connections of 14 major defaulters were disconnected, including Baroda UP Bank in Dedhgaon, which had an outstanding bill of over ₹1 lakh.
- Cases of electricity theft were registered against five individuals found using illegal power connections.
- The department recovered ₹70,000 from several consumers with outstanding bills.
- Four new electricity connections were issued, and two new meters were installed in multiple villages, including Suhwal, Dedhgaon, Patkaniya, and Ramwal.
- Officials also resolved various consumer complaints related to electricity supply and billing issues.
Strict Warning Against Unauthorized Reconnection
SDO Praveen Maurya warned that defaulters whose connections were cut must clear their dues before getting reconnected. If anyone reconnects their power supply without payment, a case will be registered against them.
Massive Outstanding Dues at Tadighat Substation
Officials highlighted that consumers under the Tadighat electricity substation collectively owe more than ₹5 crore in unpaid bills. The crackdown on defaulters is part of an ongoing effort to recover outstanding revenue and curb electricity theft.

The checking drive was conducted by JE Ashish Kumar Yadav, Pawan Singh, SSO Satendra Singh, Shahzad, Babu Khan, and Saddam, among others. SDO Praveen Maurya confirmed that the campaign resulted in significant revenue recovery and strict action against those involved in power theft.
