UCO Bank Chennai introduces Strict Attendance Rules, Salary will be Cut if Staff reaches Office Late
UCO Bank’s Chennai Zone has issued a circular directing all branches and offices to maintain strict discipline and punctuality in attendance. The bank noted that it has recently observed that many employees are not reporting to office on time and thus there is urgent need for stricter attendance rules.
Attendance Must Be Marked by 9:45 AM
As per the new instructions, all employees must log in to the Finacle system and mark their attendance on or before 9:45 AM. Employees who log in after 9:45 AM but within the next 10 minutes will be marked as “Late”. Those who fail to log in within 10 minutes after 9:45 AM will be treated as absent, and salary will be deducted.
Prior Permission Required for Delayed Reporting
The circular also states that if any employee reaches office late, then he/she will have to seek approval from their respective Branch Heads before arriving late. Branch heads must obtain permission from the Zonal Head or Deputy Zonal Head if they arrive late. The reasons for delayed reporting must be properly recorded and should be produced before the Zonal Office whenever demanded.

Employees Raise Questions Over Working Hours
While the circular focuses on employees reporting to work on time, it has also triggered discussions among bank employees regarding working hours at the end of the day. Many employees point out that banks are insisting on strict reporting times in the morning, but there is no rule to ensure that staff can leave the office on time in the evening.
Employees say that if salary is being deducted for being a little late in the morning, then extra salary should also be paid if they leave the branch late.
