DM Ghaziabad Orders Bank Employees to complete Census Duty or Face Legal Actions
The District Magistrate of Ghaziabad has issued a strict warning to Government Bank Employees. The DM has ordered bank employees to instantly complete census duty or they will have to face legal issues.
If bank employees refuse to perform census duty, they may face imprisonment of up to three years.
The letter was sent to all 12 Government Banks – Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, State Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank.
The order stated that the work of the first phase of Census 2027 – house listing and house counting, has started in Ghaziabad district. For this purpose, bank staff have been appointed as Supervisors and Enumerators in different charges of Ghaziabad district.
During the review meeting regarding census work held in the district, charge officers informed that despite census duty orders being issued to bank staff, some employees obtained leave through their institutions and did not join the census work. It has also been informed that some bank managers are unnecessarily troubling employees who are performing census duty.

The order stated that the Census work is an important and sensitive task of national interest. It is mandatory to complete the census work within the prescribed time period. Under Section 4 and 11 of the Census Act, 1948, all officers/employees appointed for census work are legally bound to assist in census operations. Any negligence, refusal, or laxity in this national duty is punishable, for which a fine up to one thousand rupees and imprisonment up to three years may be imposed.
The District Magistrate has asked the Lead District Manager (LDM) to instruct bank managers to ensure that employees appointed for census duty are relieved from office duties and allowed to complete census work properly.
