Bengaluru: On a Wednesday morning, panic unfolded at the south gate of Vidhana Soudha as Mohammed Muneed and his wife Shaista Bhanu, residents of Padarayanapura, threatened to take their own lives by pouring kerosene on themselves.

The couple, accompanied by their children and other family members, arrived at the gate around 11:10 am, expressing a desperate desire to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

However, their entry was denied by the police as none of them possessed the required pass. In a distressing turn of events, the couple, frustrated by perceived injustice from a bank, lifted a can and poured its contents, later identified as kerosene, on themselves.

Quick-thinking police officers intervened, managing to snatch the can away, though not without some kerosene inadvertently splashing onto them. The couple was subsequently taken to the Vidhana Soudha police station, where a case under IPC Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) was registered against them. Remarkably, they were released on station bail following the incident.

Home Auction and Loan Default

Investigations revealed that Mohammed Muneed and his wife had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from a bank, using one of their houses in Padarayanapura as collateral. The bank, alleging default on the loan, took the drastic step of auctioning their pledged property. The couple and their family vehemently opposed this decision, leading to the heightened tension that culminated in their dramatic suicide threat.
