Canara Bank Appoints Sujit Kumar Sahoo as Interim Group Chief Compliance Officer
Canara Bank has announced an important appointment in its senior management team. Sujit Kumar Sahoo, Chief General Manager of the Compliance & RBS Wing, has been designated as the Interim Group Chief Compliance Officer (GCCO) of the Bank. The appointment of Sujit Kumar Sahoo as Interim Group Chief Compliance Officer of Canara Bank is effective from June 29, 2026.
Sujit Kumar Sahoo Appointed Interim GCCO of Canara Bank
Sujit Kumar Sahoo will serve as the Interim Group Chief Compliance Officer of Canara Bank. Before this designation, he was serving as Chief General Manager and heading the Compliance & RBS Wing at Canara Bank’s Head Office in Bengaluru.
Sujit Kumar Sahoo is an experienced banker with more than 29 years of experience in the banking sector. During his long banking career, he has worked at different levels, from branches to the Head Office. His banking experience covers eight different states and includes postings in rural, urban and metropolitan areas.
Educational Qualification of Sujit Kumar Sahoo
Sujit Kumar Sahoo holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He also has a Diploma in Treasury, Investment and Risk Management. In addition, he is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
His qualifications and experience in treasury, investment, risk management and banking may support his responsibilities in the compliance function of Canara Bank.
Experience Across Eight States and Different Banking Levels
During his banking career of over 29 years, Sujit Kumar Sahoo has worked in eight different states. His experience ranges from rural branches to metropolitan banking centres. He has also worked from the branch level to the Head Office level.
Sujit Kumar Sahoo also has significant administrative experience in Canara Bank. He has headed the Ranchi Circle Office and three Regional Offices located in Madurai, Chennai and Sambalpur.
At present, Sujit Kumar Sahoo is heading the Compliance & RBS Wing at Canara Bank’s Head Office in Bengaluru. As Chief General Manager of the Compliance & RBS Wing, he has been handling an important function related to the Bank’s compliance framework.
Role of Group Chief Compliance Officer in a Bank
The Group Chief Compliance Officer plays an important role in the banking system. The compliance function helps a bank follow regulatory guidelines, internal policies and applicable laws. A senior compliance officer also supports the Bank in identifying compliance risks and strengthening its compliance culture and internal framework.
With banking regulations becoming increasingly detailed and technology-driven, compliance and risk management have become important areas for public sector banks and other financial institutions.
