Big Day in Indian History! PM Modi becomes India’s Longer Serving PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office. He surpassed the record previously held by Jawaharlal Nehru.

Jawaharlal Nehru served India as PM for 4,398 days. Jawaharlal Nehru holds the record for the longest overall tenure at 6,130 days. Nehru remains India’s longest-serving prime minister in total volume. However, a significant part of his early era (1947–1952) was served as the appointed leader of a transitional interim government before democratic elections began.
Modi surpassed Nehru’s post-1952 continuous elected streak of 4,398 days. This makes Modi the longest continuously serving head of an elected government in India’s history.
PM Modi has been at the helm of an elected government for nearly 19 years in total, including his consecutive tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
