In a heartfelt appeal, bank employees and officers across Uttar Pradesh have written to the state government, requesting the declaration of November 1, 2024 (Jamghat) as a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The appeal highlights the cultural and spiritual significance of the Jamghat festival, celebrated the day after Diwali. Recently, Tamil Nadu has declared holiday on 1st November. All government departments will remain closed on this day.

In the letter, AIBOC State Secretary Laxman Singh lauded the leadership of Uttar Pradesh, recognizing the remarkable progress the state has witnessed under its leadership. “Under your leadership, Uttar Pradesh is embarking on a path of remarkable progress in every region. Your great foresight and decisions have consistently prioritized the interests of the state and its people,” the letter states, offering respect and gratitude on behalf of bank employees and officers.

The employees further emphasized the cultural importance of Diwali as an integral part of Sanatan Dharma, describing it as a “symbol of light, knowledge, and justice.” Diwali, they note, celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya and fosters a sense of unity, positivity, and justice within society. However, concerns were raised regarding the absence of a public holiday on Jamghat this year, despite its significance in Sanatan tradition.

In their appeal, the employees mentioned that in accordance with tradition, no work is performed on the day of Jamghat, urging the government to recognize this cultural practice. They respectfully requested that November 1, 2024, be declared a public holiday, enabling employees of the state and public sector to observe the festival with joy while upholding their Sanatan customs.

The letter concluded with a hopeful tone, expressing confidence that the government will consider their request and take the necessary action.

As the festive season approaches, the request reflects the importance of cultural observances in the daily lives of citizens, and many are now awaiting the state government’s response to this appeal.
