In a recent interview, Alia Bhatt opened up about the status of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious romantic drama Inshallah, which was initially set to star Salman Khan alongside her. The film, a love story between a 40-year-old businessman and a young aspiring actress in her 20s, was abruptly shelved due to reported creative differences between the filmmaker and Khan.
Speaking to The Lallantop, Alia expressed hope for the film’s revival, stating, “I hope he makes Inshallah someday because it’s a brilliant story and a lovely love story.” She emphasized her commitment to working with Bhansali again in his upcoming film Love and War. When the interviewer humorously suggested that the film might require a new lead due to the past disagreements, Alia responded with a smile, “Whatever Sanjay sir decides will be the best for the film!”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently reflected on the impact of Inshallah’s cancellation during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India. He shared that Alia was deeply affected by the decision, saying, “When the film got shelved, Alia broke down, cried, and locked herself in a room.” He recounted how he reached out to her a week later to offer her the role of Gangubai in his next film, to which Alia expressed her concerns about the drastic change in character from a Los Angeles love story to the gritty world of Kamathipura.
In addition to discussing Inshallah, Alia was asked about the delayed road-trip film Jee Le Zaraa, co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif. She confirmed that there is currently “no scheduled shoot date” for the film but assured fans, “It’s definitely going to happen. All of us want it to, but logistically it’s been tough to align all our schedules.”
Alia is currently seen in Jigra, a prison-break action film directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Karan Johar. The film, which released on October 11, has received mixed reviews and faced challenges at the box office. Looking ahead, Alia is set to star in Alpha, part of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, which is scheduled to hit theaters in December next year. Meanwhile, Bhansali’s Love and War, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, is expected to start production soon.
As fans eagerly await updates on Inshallah and other projects, both Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali continue to shape the landscape of Indian cinema with their creative endeavors.
