Recently, there was a mass strike by the cabin crew members of Air India Express due to alleged mismanagement by the airline. This led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights since Tuesday. The airline forced employees to return to work as a lot of flights had to be cancelled. The airline had to cancel around 20 flights on Sunday. The airline even terminated 25 cabin crew members. But the mass strike continued. More than 200 cabin crew are believed to have reported sick to protest against the alleged mismanagement at the airline.

Congress leader K C Venugopal sought immediate intervention of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and called for urgent measures to ensure the passengers are not affected.

The civil aviation ministry sought a report from Air India Express on the flight cancellations and also asked the airline to resolve the issues promptly.

It’s reported that the strike has now been resolved after a meeting called by the chief labour commissioner in Delhi. The airline also retracted termination letters issued to 25 cabin crew members who participated in the strike.

The meeting involved representatives from the airline and the Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU). Air India Express expressed satisfaction with the progress made at the meeting and welcomed the cabin crew members back to work. They apologized for the inconvenience caused by the disruptions and assured their guests that they are working towards restoring the flight schedule as quickly as possible. They also advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Air India Express is slowly getting its flights back on track and improving its services, according to an official. All the cabin crew members who were on sick leave have returned to work. The Air India Express Employees Union released a statement confirming that all the sick cabin crew members have resumed their duties by May 11, 2024.

However, there was a problem with the company’s scheduling software, which mistakenly showed that some staff members were still on sick leave. As a result, the airline had to cancel around 20 flights on Sunday. But the official mentioned that everything should be back to normal by Tuesday morning.

In April, Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons Private Limited and Singapore Airlines, had to cancel its flight services due to a shortage of crew members. Later, they had to reduce their operations due to sick pilots.

Air India Express operates more than 2,500 flights every week across 31 domestic and 14 international airports. Air India, the parent company, has a fleet of over 70 aircraft, including Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s.
