Tehsildar Robbed at Knifepoint in Balod Chhattisgarh, Robbers Leave him near SBI Bank

Balod, Chhattisgarh: In a shocking incident, a Tehsildar in Balod district became the victim of a daring robbery while he was out for an evening walk. The crime took place near Jayastambh Chowk in Balod city, where four unidentified robbers tricked him into boarding their auto and later robbed him at knifepoint. The robbers not only snatched cash worth ₹6,500 but also took away his official identity card before pushing him out of the vehicle near the SBI Bank.
Tehsildar Targeted While Helping Strangers
According to reports, Balod Tehsildar Ashutosh Sharma had gone for his routine evening walk when he was approached by four unknown individuals in an auto-rickshaw. The men asked him for directions to the nearest ATM, and Sharma, being helpful, guided them to a location nearby. However, the suspects requested him to accompany them, pretending they needed more assistance. Trusting their intentions, the Tehsildar sat in the auto, unaware of their real motives.
Robbers Threatened with Knife and Fled with Cash & ID
After traveling a short distance, the robbers suddenly pulled out a knife and demanded all the cash he had. When Sharma refused, they threatened him and forcibly snatched his purse, which contained ₹6,500 in cash and his official identity card. After looting him, they pushed him out of the auto near SBI Bank and fled the scene. Realizing what had happened, the Tehsildar immediately reported the incident to the Balod police station.
Police Register FIR and Begin Investigation
Following Sharma’s complaint, the Balod police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against four unknown individuals. The police quickly launched a district-wide search operation, alerting all police stations to track down the suspects. Based on intelligence and surveillance, the police took four people into custody in the Gunderdehi police station area, who were suspected to be involved in the crime.
