Superstar Thalapathy Vijay trusts PSU Banks, Keeps maximum funds in Govt Banks

In the recent elections, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has become the largest party in Tamil Nadu. With this significant achievement, its founder and chief C. Joseph Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay) has come into focus.

In a career spanning over three decades in Tamil cinema, Vijay appeared in 69 films and ranked among India’s highest-paid actors.

In February 2024, Vijay announced his retirement from films and his entry into politics with the launch of his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. His final film Jana Nayagan is still unreleased. In the 2026 Assembly election, his party emerged as the single largest in the assembly, though it was not able to reach the majority mark.

Let’s have a look at the assets and wealth of Thalapathy Vijay as per affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India on March 30, 2026.

Vijay has declared a total net worth of ₹624 crore. His movable assets are ₹404 crore, and his immovable assets are ₹220 crore. His income for FY 2024–25 is ₹184.53 crore. This income comes from self-employment, rent, and interest.

One of the most notable details is that ₹213.36 crore is kept in a single savings account at Indian Overseas Bank, Saligramam branch, as of March 27, 2026. It alone makes up more than one-third of his total wealth.

Apart from this, Vijay has fixed deposits worth ₹100 crore in four banks:

  • Axis Bank (Indira Nagar branch): ₹40 crore
  • Indian Overseas Bank (Kodambakkam branch): ₹25 crore
  • HDFC Bank (Besant Nagar branch): ₹20 crore
  • State Bank of India (Shastri Nagar branch): ₹15 crore

Together with the savings account, more than ₹313 crore of his wealth is in bank deposits, which are low-risk and offer fixed returns.

His investment in the stock market is very small. As per data from the Association for Democratic Reforms, he holds shares worth only ₹19.37 lakh. These include shares in Jaya Nagar Property Pvt Ltd, Indian Overseas Bank, and Sun Paper Mill Ltd. This is less than 0.04% of his total wealth. He has not declared any mutual funds, bonds, or debentures.

Vijay’s immovable assets, worth ₹220 crore, include:

  • Residential properties in Neelankarai, Saligramam, Mylapore, Egmore, and nearby areas worth about ₹115 crore across ten properties.
  • Commercial properties in Parivakkam, Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Koppur worth about ₹82.8 crore. The largest is a 2.30-acre property in Koppur bought in November 2023 for ₹35.81 crore.
  • Non-agricultural land in Porur, Saligramam, and Neelankarai worth ₹22 crore.
  • Agricultural land in Wilpatti village, Kodaikanal—two small plots bought in 1997 for ₹15,000 each, now valued at ₹10 lakh each.

He earns rental income from these properties. He is also the Managing Director of Jaya Nagar Property Private Limited, which is involved in real estate.

His vehicles, worth ₹13.52 crore, include luxury cars like Lexus 350, BMW i7, BMW 530, Toyota Vellfire, Tata Caravan, and a Maruti Swift, along with a TVS XL Super.

Vijay has declared 883 grams of gold worth ₹1.20 crore and silver worth ₹15 lakh. His wife, Sangeetha, has declared gold worth ₹4.07 crore, silver worth ₹4.75 lakh, and diamonds worth ₹1 crore.

The affidavit also shows 14 loans and advances totaling ₹75.5 crore given to individuals, family members, trusts, and companies. Some major amounts include ₹20 crore each to A L P Antonius Britto and Kokilambal Educational Foundation, ₹12.60 crore to his wife, and other smaller amounts to different people and organisations.

His wife, Sangeetha Vijay, has declared total assets of ₹15.76 crore. This includes movable assets of ₹15.51 crore, such as a ₹10 crore fixed deposit and ₹43.41 lakh in a savings account, and immovable property worth ₹25 lakh.

This shows that superstar Thalapathy has kept maximum funds in a public sector bank – Indian Overseas Bank.
